How long does a Vietnam visa take when you apply from Australia? Here is what to expect for standard, rush and urgent processing — and when Vietnam public holidays may slow things down.

How Vietnam e-visa processing time is counted
Vietnam Immigration counts working days — Monday to Friday in Vietnam, excluding public holidays. Weekends and holiday closures do not count toward the timeframe shown on our application form.
If you choose urgent 3 working days and apply on a Monday with complete documents, that typically means Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You would expect a result on Thursday or Friday depending on when immigration finishes processing.
That is the official baseline. Busy periods, incomplete applications, or photo and passport issues can add extra time on top of the option you select.

When to apply
- Standard (7 working days): apply at least 2 weeks before departure.
- Peak season or public holidays: apply 3–4 weeks early — especially before Tet (Lunar New Year) and National Day (2 September). See our holiday calendar below.
- Urgent or same-day options: submit complete documents as early as possible on a working day. Call us if your flight is within 48 hours.
Vietnam public holidays that affect processing
Immigration offices close on Vietnam public holidays. Applications submitted just before a long break often sit in a queue until staff return.

Common reasons for delays
- Passport scan is blurry, cropped, or expires within six months of travel.
- Photo does not meet e-visa rules (4×6 cm, plain background, no glasses, recent).
- Name, date of birth, or passport number does not match your passport exactly.
- Application submitted while already inside Vietnam (these are rejected).
- High volume before Tet, April–May holidays, or September National Day.

How long does standard Vietnam e-visa processing take with Vien Dong?
For tourism single-entry and multiple-entry applications, standard processing is 7 working days (Monday to Friday), excluding Vietnam public holidays. This matches the Standard processing option on our online application form.
What is the fastest processing option on your application form?
For 3 month single-entry visas, the fastest option is 24 hours (except weekends and public holidays). For 3 month multiple-entry visas, same-day processing (4–8 working hours) is available when you select it on the form and submit complete documents in time.
Do weekends and Vietnam public holidays count as processing days?
No. Processing times are counted in Vietnam working days (Monday to Friday). Weekends and Vietnam public holidays are not counted. Our holiday calendar on this page lists closures that can delay applications.
When should I apply before a Vietnam public holiday?
Apply at least 3–4 weeks before travel if your dates fall near Tet (Lunar New Year) or National Day (2 September). For standard 7-day processing, we recommend applying at least two weeks before departure at any time of year.
Are processing times guaranteed?
No. The options on our form are service-level targets based on what we deliver when your documents are complete and correct. Final visa approval is always decided by Vietnam Immigration, and delays can occur during peak periods or if corrections are required.
