How long does a Vietnam visa take when you apply from Australia? Here is what to expect for standard, urgent, 24 hour, and weekend-rate processing — and when public holidays may slow working-day options.

How Vietnam e-visa processing time is counted
Standard processing and urgent processing are counted in working days: Monday to Friday, excluding applicable public holidays. Weekends and holiday closures are not part of those timeframes.
If you choose urgent 2–3 working days (Monday to Friday) and lodge a complete application on a Monday, the days counted are the following Monday-to-Friday working days, skipping weekends and public holidays. When the result arrives depends on Vietnamese immigration. That example is not a guaranteed approval time.
Busy periods, incomplete applications, or photo and passport issues can add time. The 24 hour weekend rate is a separate option with its own price. It does not promise that the visa will be approved over the weekend.

When to apply
- Standard (7 working days): apply at least 2 weeks before departure.
- Peak season or public holidays: apply 3–4 weeks early — especially before Tet (Lunar New Year) and National Day (2 September). See our holiday calendar below.
- Urgent, 24 hour, or weekend rate: submit complete documents as early as you can. The single-entry 24 hour option excludes weekends and public holidays. The weekend rate is the separate weekend price. Call us if your flight is within 48 hours.
Vietnam public holidays that affect processing
Immigration offices close on Vietnam public holidays. Applications submitted just before a long break often sit in a queue until staff return.

Common reasons for delays
- Passport scan is blurry, cropped, or expires within six months of travel.
- Photo does not meet e-visa rules (4×6 cm, plain background, no glasses, recent).
- Name, date of birth, or passport number does not match your passport exactly.
- Application submitted while already inside Vietnam (these are rejected).
- High volume before Tet, April–May holidays, or September National Day.

How long does standard Vietnam e-visa processing take with Vien Dong?
For tourism single-entry and multiple-entry applications, standard processing is 7 working days, Monday to Friday, excluding applicable public holidays. Single entry is $100 and multiple entry is $160, per applicant. Vietnamese immigration authorities make the final decision.
What is the fastest processing option on your application form?
For a 3-month single-entry tourism visa, the fastest listed option is 24 hours (except weekends/holidays), at $395 per applicant. The separate weekend option is 24 hours (weekend rate), at $550. Multiple-entry prices are different: 24 hours is $455, and 24 hours (weekend rate) is $610. These are processing targets, not a guarantee of approval.
Do weekends and Vietnam public holidays count as processing days?
No. Standard processing and urgent 2–3 working days (Monday to Friday) exclude weekends and applicable public holidays. The single-entry 24 hour option also excludes weekends and public holidays. If you need the visa handled over a weekend, choose the separately priced 24 hour weekend rate. The holiday calendar on this page lists closures that can delay applications. Choosing that option does not guarantee approval.
When should I apply before a Vietnam public holiday?
Apply at least 3–4 weeks before travel if your dates fall near Tet (Lunar New Year) or National Day (2 September). For standard 7-day processing, we recommend applying at least two weeks before departure at any time of year.
Are processing times guaranteed?
No. The options on our form are processing targets for when your documents are complete and correct. Vietnamese immigration authorities decide whether a visa is approved. Delays can occur during peak periods, public holidays, or if corrections are required.
Why are processing options different for single entry and multiple entry?
Each visa type has its own processing choices and prices. A 3-month multiple-entry visa is not charged at the single-entry amount. The 5-year exemption has one option: 7–14 working days. The application form shows only the choices for the visa type you select.
